Help for Sexually Abused Women

February 16, 2014 by hgbischoff Leave a Comment

See that title, I get it.  I am one of the women who have been sexually abused.  That’s not how I identify my self anymore, but it’s important for you to know because I have something super exciting to share with you.  I can remember for a good portion of my life feeling the shame, guilt and dirtiness associated with sexual abuse as I was learning to live with myself in the aftermath.  Can you identify with any of these words?  I’m here to tell you that I understand, I’ve been there.  So much so that I have written a book to help you move on, though my experiences. I don’t take “moving on” lightly.  What you experienced is your experience and I would never belittle that, but at some point you need to learn to live with it and move on with your life. Life is too valuable of a gift for you not to, plus your worth it!

While I can’t share all the details yet, I do want to let you know that this book is a project that I am hoping to complete this year.  The manuscript is complete and the people who have read it love it and have been encouraging me to get it out there to all of you!  If you know any publishers or publishing houses that would like to take on a worthy project please send them my way!

Years ago, I was reading the Raggamuffin Gospel when I came across a statement that blew me a way.  This statement stopped me in my tracks, the tears began to flow and I put the book down.  I actually never finished the book to this day but that one statement was so powerful that I couldn’t forget it.  Ready for the statement?  The statement that I remember, I can’t even put it into context anymore, but as I was reading along I came across a simple sentence…You are Accepted. Pow!  Let me repeat that in case you missed it, YOU ARE ACCEPTED. Say it out loud, write it on your mirror, own it, believe it and let it sink in.

Here’s the plan, I would like to find a publisher that will be willing to donate the publishing so that all the proceeds can be donated to a women’s shelter.  That’s right, I don’t want to receive any money for this book, I want all the proceeds to go directly to the organizations that help the women that the book will help.  That’s how strongly I feel about this.  I sure could use your help.  If you know of a publisher that would be interested in taking a look and I am also open to suggestions on which women’s shelter to have the proceeds donated.  As a thank you for helping get this project completed, you will receive an autographed copy of the book.

This is so exciting, can you feel it?  I can’t wait to share my story with you in hopes that it will give you or a friend of yours some clear goals and ideas of how you can begin to move on in your life and not let your abuser take anything else away from you.  Will you be brave enough to join me on this mission?  Great, ladies we are going to have a great time and take back our lives.  After all it is our life and we get to choose how we live.  Let’s choose to be empowered, bold and accepted.

Pink Panties or White Panties?

February 12, 2014 by hgbischoff Leave a Comment

Unknown A friend of mine was telling a group of women a story from her childhood, I can’t recall much of the conversation other than her mom bought her white panties and she was so upset because she wanted pink ones.  What struck me about this was that even as a young girl she knew what she wanted and was willing to speak up to voice  her opinion.  Now I don’t know what the outcome was for my friend, I’m guessing she got her pink panties; the better question is why don’t more of us speak up when we know what we want?

This concept of being a woman and knowing what you want is exactly where I am now, but let’s be clear I didn’t arrive here over night. I can only speak for myself and hopefully you will relate.  When I think about my friends story about getting white panties instead of the pink ones, it reminds me of a story of my own.  My grand-mother used to buy me panties with ruffles on the back, you know a little bling bling.  I can remember wearing them and feeling so special, loved and happy.  Sometimes my mom would buy me the “special” panties like for Christmas or Easter.  They were my favorite ones, other than my wonder woman under roos.  Remember those?!  Ok, well if you have no idea what I am talking about then you can google it or message me and I will be more than happy to explain.  My point in all of this is coming I promise. 🙂

It seems that for some of us when we are little girls everyone pampered us with all of the best, cutest clothes and accessories that we don’t really understand, but what we do understand is how it makes us feel.  We feel like little princesses, loved, safe and secure. Then we get a little older and somehow the tables turn and we are looked down upon or considered a “brat” if we know what we like, and  what we want.  To the point that it’s easier to pretend that we don’t like beautiful things or even worse we begin to feel guilty about spending money on ourselves.  Especially once we have, children.

What is about the women who go after what they want, they spend money investing in themselves?  Here’s what I have learned.  I’ve felt guilty about spending money on myself, I’ve even felt like if I spend money on myself other people will think I’m being selfish or even a bad mom.  Yet deep inside, if I was being honest with myself, there were times when I really just wanted to get something new, something beautiful.  Ladies, let me share something with you.  These are all fears.  It’s not wrong to invest in yourself, or to buy something beautiful for yourself.  Please understand, I’m not suggesting you over indulge or spend money beyond your budget.  What I am suggesting is that you value yourself enough to take care of yourself.  So if that means getting your hair cut, taking a yoga class, or investing in a personal coach, then do it.  Give your self permission to care for yourself.  No one can meet your deepest desires and needs better than you, and you aren’t going to be giving your family, friends or employers your best if you aren’t taking care of yourself.

It doesn’t mater if you are a single woman or a single mom, let me give you permission to go get yourself the pink panties.  Wear them proud and let that be the first of many changes where you begin to do small things to take care of yourself, so that you can give the best of you to the people and things in your life that are most important to you.
